It is our hope that individual gardeners across North America will use Wild Bee ID to learn about native bees, become actively involved in their conservation and inspire their neighbors to do the same. For while saving our native bees, “one garden at a time," is a great beginning, a collective effort on the part of a whole community can be that much more effective. By working together, we can blanket our residential landscapes with a BEE-UTIFUL patchwork quilt of wild bee gardens!
About Wild Bee ID
North America boasts more than 4,000 species of native bees, which are critical for pollinating nearly three-quarters of the earth's flowering plants. Unfortunately, pollinator populations have been declining at alarming rates all across the continent, primarily due to habitat loss and pesticide poisoning. Without these indigenous pollinators, most of our land-based ecosystems would collapse. We therefore hope Wild Bee ID will provide an introduction to North America's native bees and be used as a tool for gardeners from coast to coast to actively support native bee conservation.
Wild Bee ID is a project of Center for Food Safety, a national non-profit public interest and environmental advocacy organization working to protect human health and the environment by curbing the use of harmful food production technologies and by promoting organic and other forms of sustainable agriculture.
